The Google Cloud Professional Cloud Database Engineer certification validates the ability to design, create, migrate, and troubleshoot database solutions on Google Cloud. It targets database engineers and architects working with the full range of GCP database services, from relational to NoSQL to analytical.
The exam covers four areas: Design Scalable and Highly Available Cloud Database Solutions (26%), Manage a Solution that Can Span Multiple Database Solutions (22%), Migrate Data Solutions (29%), and Deploy, Monitor, and Manage Cloud Databases (23%). Database services covered include Cloud SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server), Cloud Spanner (globally distributed relational), Firestore (NoSQL document), Bigtable (wide-column NoSQL), AlloyDB for PostgreSQL, Memorystore (Redis/Memcached), and BigQuery (analytics warehouse). The exam also covers database migration strategies using Database Migration Service.
The exam is valid for 2 years with approximately 50 questions in 120 minutes. It is ideal for database administrators, data engineers, and backend architects who manage multi-database GCP environments and need to select the right database service for diverse workload requirements.
