Domain 1: Setting up a cloud solution environment
Q1. To proactively control costs, you want to receive an email alert when a project's forecasted spend reaches 90% of its budget. Where do you configure this?
Correct.
Budgets and their alert thresholds are a Cloud Billing feature, configured on the billing account rather than per project. Note that budget alerts notify — they do not cap spend, which is a distinction the exam likes to test.
Domain 2: Plan and configure a cloud solution
Q2. Which gcloud command correctly sets your default working project for subsequent commands?
Correct.
Defaults live in the active gcloud configuration, and `gcloud config set` is how you write to it. The ACE exam tests exact command syntax more than most cloud exams — the other three options are plausible-looking commands that do not exist.
Domain 3: Deploying and implementing a cloud solution
Q3. What is the most operationally efficient and secure method to grant a team of developers SSH access to a group of Compute Engine instances?
Correct.
OS Login ties SSH access to IAM identities, so removing someone from the Google Group revokes their access everywhere at once. Managing keys in project metadata means the offboarding step is manual and easy to forget on some subset of instances.

The Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer is the fundamental hands-on certification for Google Cloud practitioners. It validates the ability to deploy applications, monitor operations, and manage enterprise solutions on Google Cloud. It is the GCP equivalent of AWS SAA-C03 in terms of seniority and market demand.
The exam covers five domains: Set Up a Cloud Solution Environment (15–20%), Plan and Configure a Cloud Solution (15–20%), Deploy and Implement a Cloud Solution (25–30%), Ensure Successful Operation of a Cloud Solution (20–25%), and Configure Access and Security (15–20%). Core services include Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Firestore, BigQuery, VPC networking, Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud IAM, and Cloud Monitoring.
The ACE exam has approximately 50 questions in 120 minutes. Google does not disclose the passing score. The certification is valid for 3 years. It is widely recommended as the starting point for GCP technical practitioners before pursuing Professional-level certifications. Strong gcloud CLI knowledge and hands-on practice on GCP projects are essential for passing.
