Specialty DP-420
Specialty Azure cert for developers designing and building cloud-native applications with Azure Cosmos DB — NoSQL, partitioning, consistency, and indexing.
The Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB Developer Specialty (DP-420) is the dedicated certification for developers who design and implement cloud-native applications using Azure Cosmos DB. It validates deep expertise in Cosmos DB's data modeling, partitioning strategies, consistency levels, indexing policies, and SDK usage.
The exam covers five domains: Design and Implement Data Models (35–40%), Design and Implement Data Distribution (5–10%), Integrate an Azure Cosmos DB Solution (5–10%), Optimize an Azure Cosmos DB Solution (15–20%), and Maintain an Azure Cosmos DB Solution (25–30%). You must understand Cosmos DB's multi-model API (NoSQL, MongoDB, Gremlin, Table, Cassandra), the request unit (RU) pricing model, change feed, and Cosmos DB's global distribution and multi-region writes.
The DP-420 is a niche but highly specialized certification suitable for backend developers and architects working with globally distributed, low-latency NoSQL databases. It pairs well with the AZ-204 Developer Associate for developers building data-intensive cloud applications on Azure.
Backend developers and cloud architects building globally distributed applications using Azure Cosmos DB.
Prerequisites: AZ-204 recommended. Proficiency in C# or Python and experience with NoSQL data modeling.
