The Microsoft Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) is Microsoft's top credential for DevOps professionals working on the Azure platform. It validates the ability to design and implement DevOps practices for version control, compliance, infrastructure as code, configuration management, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and monitoring.
The exam covers five domains: Configure Processes and Communications (10–15%), Design and Implement Source Control (15–20%), Design and Implement Build and Release Pipelines (40–45%), Develop a Security and Compliance Plan (10–15%), and Implement an Instrumentation Strategy (10–15%). Core tools and services include Azure DevOps (Boards, Repos, Pipelines, Artifacts), GitHub and GitHub Actions, Azure Container Registry, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Bicep and ARM templates, Azure Key Vault, and Azure Monitor.
The AZ-400 requires passing either the AZ-104 or AZ-204 as a prerequisite. It is highly valued by DevOps engineers, release managers, and platform engineers who design automation and delivery pipelines for Azure workloads and want a recognized credential beyond platform-specific experience.
